Jimmy Howes is the Program Director / Chief Engineer / Production Manager & Morning Show Host here at North Jersey 1500 WGHT.
He has a 35 year career in Broadcasting. His career started in 1980, working for "Cousin" Bruce Morrow at WALL & WKGL Radio.
Jimmy spent time as the Morning Show Host at Jukebox Radio. During his time at The Jukebox, Jimmy worked along side of some of radio's legendary DJ's. (Chuck Leonard, Stan Martin, Marty Wilson, Lee Arnold, Bill Owen, John Paul Morris, Gerry Turro & others )
Jimmy spent 3-years as WVNJ's Mid-Day Show Host too and has worked at dozens of other radio stations before coming to WGHT Radio.
He's an award winning Voice Over Talent and you have heard his voice on hundreds of commercials, both locally here in the New Jersey / New York area and Nationally across the United States.
Board notes from the PD chair
Jimmy still treats a festival remote like a second control room: extra mics, a spare cart, and a list of listener names who asked for a shout-out after the last balloon glow. The same habit shows up when a caller mentions packing out of a short London let. He keeps the chat in the morning-show lane, then points people to the community interview already on the home page rather than turning the hour into a lecture.
If you grew up with Cousin Brucie stories on this page, the newer desk work is the same craft. Live board, local names, and a clean handoff when the next jock sits down.
Jimmy has hosted dozens of oldies concerts over the years, so he not only knows the music he plays, he personally knows the artists who play them.
Jimmy Howes has been awarded the prestigious American Morning Show Host of the Year. Jimmy Howes has also received awards from the The Garden State Journalist Association for his morning show interviews and also has been nominated for a Marconi Award with WGHT's Radio Staff.
"I am honored & proud to work at a radio station that John Silliman has created. Broadcast radio is lucky to have someone like John Silliman keeping real radio alive. John is a true radio veteran, who's keeping radio the way it was supposed to be: "Live & Local."
Being the Program Director at WGHT is a privileged. I'm especially proud of our News Department. Our news broadcasts have received honors from A.P. News, the New York Air Awards and other honors from dozens of local government agencies and media outlets.
WGHT has received honors for the prestigious Crystal Radio Award from the National Association of Broadcasters ( The NAB ), for outstanding which includes Crystal Radio Awards and a Marconi Award nomination for "Oldies Radio Station of the Year."
Being WGHT-Radio's Morning Show host, with Greta Latona for more than 10-years, is a ton-of-fun. I'm ecstatic working along side Greta every day. Our morning show is one of radio's last real live & local shows in America, doing what we do.
